Logging into the system is done here, and login requires an email address and a password.
Linear also has mandatory two-factor authentication (2FA), which means that when logging in from a new device, the application requires a second method of identification in addition to the username and password. This could be a numeric code sent via text message, biometric identification, etc.
If you encounter a problem (e.g., your phone number has changed) and you cannot receive the two-factor authentication code via text message, you can also authenticate via email by selecting Try another method at the bottom of the screen and then E-mail. You will receive a code to the email address linked to Linear shortly.
If you use the same device, you only need to use a second method of identification once a month if you check the option "This is my main device. Trust it for 30 days".
If Linear requests the two-factor authentication (2FA) code even though you have chosen to remember the device for 30 days, possible reasons include:
- Browser cookies or cache: If you have cleared your browser's cookies or cache, Linear may not recognize your device, and as a result, may ask for the 2FA code again.
- Changing or updating the browser: If you have switched browsers or updated your current browser to a new version, Linear may ask for the 2FA code because it does not recognize the device or browser.
- Incognito mode: If you are using the browser's incognito mode or have set the device to be remembered in incognito mode, Linear may not recognize your device.
- New device: If you have logged in from a different device or terminal (mobile / laptop / desktop), the 30-day count starts over, and you must perform 2FA again.
- Changing IP address: Linear evaluates whether the user's IP address has changed and whether it is trustworthy, which may also cause 2FA to be requested again.
Checks are performed automatically in Linear's login system to protect the user account and ensure security.
Linear works on all browsers, but is best supported by Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Edge.
For mobile use, Linear performs excellently on browsers supported by Android and iOS.
