Efficient work for agents and real estate offices is built on clearly defined goals. These goals not only motivate agents but also provide management with data-driven support for decision-making. The Goals feature enables goal setting and tracking tailored specifically for the real estate industry, directly within Linear.
Management can set various sales-related goals—such as acquisition visits, closed deals, and commissions—for specific time periods and track their progress in Linear.
Goals update automatically based on the information agents enter into Linear. This ensures up-to-date progress tracking without manual work. Agents can also view their own goals and follow their own progress, as well as others’ when necessary.
Setting goals
A user with the Goal management permission active can create, edit, and delete goals in the Goals section of Linear. You can set a new goal by clicking New goal.
NOTE: Goals are always set per company/office in Linear. If the company has multiple offices (= Linear environments), each office must set its own goals.
When creating a new goal, you must define the following details:
- Target number – Enter the numerical goal you want to reach, e.g., 4 or 10,000 depending on the goal type. The goal type determines whether the number is monetary or unit-based.
- Goal type – Choose the appropriate option from the list, e.g., Acquisition visit or Commission accrual. Once you select the goal type, the system will also show additional information on how the goal is calculated. You can find more details on goal types later in this article.
- Goal period – Select whether the goal is set on a weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly basis.
- Goal name – If you have already selected a goal type, the system generates a default name for the goal, such as Number of acquisition visits. However, you can still edit the name—for example, Number of acquisition visits 2025.
- Time zone – This information updates automatically based on company settings, but you may change it if needed.
- Week start day – Choose whether the system should consider the week as starting on Monday or Sunday.
- Starting – Select the date from which tracking of the goal should begin.
- Ending – Select how long the goal should be tracked.
- Participants – Select the participant or participants for the goal.
- (Optional) Allow participants to view each other’s progress – Choose whether you want to share progress data among participants. If enabled, participants can see each other’s results and compare how everyone is progressing toward the same goal.
Finally, click Confirm after filling in all details.
A newly created goal could look like this:
More information on goal types and how results are calculated
Acquisition visit – An acquisition visit is counted when a meeting logged for the customer is marked with the reason “acquisition visit” or “valuation visit.” The meeting is counted toward the participant’s progress once the meeting date has passed.
Assignments – An assignment is counted toward the participant’s progress when the participant is marked as the acquiring agent, the assignment has been signed, and the assignment’s start date has been reached.
Commission accrual – Commission accrual includes all commissions recorded on sales or rental settlement forms that are assigned to the participant and the company associated with this goal. The commission is counted toward progress once the settlement’s recorded sale date or rental date has been reached.
Sales – A participant’s sales include all listings where the participant is marked as the agent. A sale is counted once the sale date recorded in the listing’s sales settlement has been reached.
Total sales value – A participant’s sales include all listings where they are marked as the agent. The selling price recorded in the sales settlement is counted toward the total value once the sale date in the settlement has been reached.
Rental transactions – A participant’s rental transactions include all listings where the participant is marked as the agent. A rental transaction is counted once the rental date recorded in the rental settlement has been reached.
Total rental value – A participant’s rental transactions include all listings where they are marked as the agent. The rent amount recorded in the rental settlement is counted toward the total value once the recorded rental date has been reached.
NOTE: Goals are always tracked per company/office in Linear. If a participant works as an agent in multiple companies or offices, only events recorded within the company where the goal is set are counted toward progress.
