When using Linear’s calendar integration on your phone or another smart device such as a tablet, there are a few things to keep in mind.
Apple devices:
Apple phones and tablets use the Apple Calendar app (formerly iCal) by default, and it is not possible to create a direct integration from Linear to Apple Calendar.
To get the most out of Linear’s calendar integration, you can do the following:
- Download either the Outlook app or the Google Calendar app (depending on which calendar your Linear integration is connected to). This allows you to view and manage all your calendar events directly within that app.
- Set up synchronization between Apple Calendar and Outlook or Google Calendar. This way, events you add in Linear are saved first to Outlook or Google, and from there they are automatically synced to Apple Calendar. You can find more information about Apple Calendar synchronization and settings in the support portals of Apple, Microsoft, or Google.
Note: Events you add directly to Apple Calendar (for example, a dentist appointment) will not sync to Linear’s calendar, as Apple Calendar does not support two-way synchronization with Outlook or Google.
Android devices:
Android devices use Google Calendar by default, and it works directly with Linear’s calendar integration. If your Linear integration is connected to Google Calendar, your events will automatically appear in your device’s calendar without any extra steps.
If you use Outlook Calendar, however, Linear’s events do not appear automatically. In that case, you can do the following:
- Install the Outlook app on your Android device if your Linear integration is connected to Outlook. This allows you to view and manage all your calendar events directly in Outlook.
- Connect Outlook and Google Calendar if you want to see all your events in one view. This way, events added via Linear are automatically synchronized to your device’s calendar regardless of which app you use. You can find more information about synchronizing calendars and configuring settings in Google’s and Microsoft’s support portals.
Note: If you add events directly in your Android device’s calendar, they won’t automatically be saved to Linear’s calendar unless it is the same calendar account (for example, the same Google or Outlook account to which your Linear integration is connected).
Dedicated calendar view for Linear’s calendar
Please note that if you selected the option “Create a new calendar view for Linear’s calendar” when activating the calendar integration, this calendar may not automatically be enabled in your phone’s calendar app. If you don’t see Linear events in your mobile calendar, check the calendar settings in the app to ensure the Linear calendar is enabled.
Below is an example of how to access the calendar settings in the Outlook mobile app by tapping your profile picture.
